Registration for classes is required, to register please
call 260-3984 or send email to
brownb@montgomeryarc.org. All training is held at the Red Cross Regional
Headquarters located at 5015 Woods Crossing, Montgomery
Alabama 36106 334-260-3980 You must be a registered Red Cross disaster volunteer
before signing up for a class. To register as a disaster
volunteer, contact your local Red Cross chapter 260-3980. To
sign up for a particular class, contact the host chapter
directly. DISASTER CLASSES ARE TAUGHT BY DISASTER
STAFF/VOLUNTEERS, AND AS SUCH ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE OR
CANCELLATION. For this reason please register so we may
contact you in the event of a cancellation or rescheduling.
There is no fee for Red Cross disaster classes.
Disaster Course Descriptions
Client Casework /
Client Assistance Cards (CAC): Prepares volunteers to
interview, assist, and advocate for Red Cross clients as
service associate caseworkers during a disaster. The CAC
adjunct course prepares caseworkers to properly handle
client assistance cards. Pre-requisite: Fulfilling Our
Mission
Collaborating to
Ensure Effective Service Delivery: Prepares Red Cross
staff and volun-teers to establish collaborative
relationships for a coordinated disaster response.
Prereq-uisite: Fulfilling Our Mission
DAT Training:
Volunteers learn to respond to single and multi-family
fires. Those who complete training will be given the
opportunity to be on-call to respond to incidents in their
area. Prerequisite: Fulfilling Our Mission
Disaster Assessment
Basics: General overview of the tasks performed by Red
Cross disas-ter assessment works in support of a disaster
relief operation and a local incident such as a single or
multi-family fire. Prerequisite: Fulfilling Our Mission
Disaster Frontline
Supervisor: Prepares supervisors to lead a team of
disaster workers to deliver high quality client services and
to create a climate that promotes worker satisfac-tion.
Prerequisite: Fulfilling Our Mission, training equivalent to
a service associate level in the activity in which one
expects to become a supervisor
Disaster
Fundraising: Strongly recommended for staff and
volunteers who will support fundraising efforts at a chapter
or on a major operation. Prerequisite: Fulfilling Our
Mis-sion, active status in DSHR
Disaster Health Services: Prepares licensed or
certified health professionals to function as health
professionals within Red Cross Health Services protocols.
Prerequisite: Fulfilling Our Mission, current health
professional licensing/certification
Disaster Instructor
Specialty Training: Prepares knowledgeable and
experienced Disaster Services workers to teach basic-level
courses. Prerequisites: Red Cross pre-approval for
instructor candidacy, operational knowledge and experience
in the subject of the course the candidate intends to teach,
completion of the basic course the candidate intends to
teach
Disaster Mental
Health: Prepares licensed or certified health
professionals to function as mental health professionals
within Red Cross Mental Health Services protocols. Prerequi-site:
Fulfilling Our Mission, current mental health professional
licensing/certification
ERV: Ready, Set,
Roll: Prepares staff and volunteers to operate an
Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) and its equipment safety
and effectively to meet feeding and other service needs of
people affected by disaster. Prerequisite: Fulfilling Our
Mission, enrollment in DSHR, 21 yrs of age w/ current
driver’s license and a good driving record
Intro to Disaster
Operations: Introduction to the American Red Cross,
disaster services and core functions. This course is a
prerequisite for most other disaster training courses
Fundamentals of
Chapter Disaster Operations Management (FCDOM): Prepares
staff and volunteers to manage a chapter-administered
disaster relief operation. Prerequisites: Fulfilling Our
Mission, Mass Care Overview, Disaster Assessment (online
component), CAC, Collaborating to Ensure Effective Service
Delivery
In-Kind Donations
Workshop: Prepares volunteers who wish to work the
in-kind activity for a disaster relief operation.
Prerequisite: Fulfilling Our Mission
Logistics:
Provides volunteers with information about the processes of
Material Support Services activities in support of an
American Red Cross disaster relief operation. Prerequi-site:
Fulfilling Our Mission
Mass Care Overview:
Provides volunteers with an overview of the activities
performed by the Mass Care group in support of a disaster
relief operation. Prerequisite: Fulfilling Our Mission
Public Affairs: The
Local Response: Introduces Red Cross communicators to
the critical tasks necessary to initiative a chapter
disaster public affairs response. Prerequisite: Fulfill-ing
Our Mission
Shelter Operations/Simulation: Prepares volunteers
to manage shelter operations effec-tively and sensitively as
a team while meeting the needs of people displaced as a
